Viennale 2014: Mortensen, Ford and 16mm

Film festival announces programme highlights

Viennale boss Hans Hurch gave a first glance at the festival programm at his traditional summer press briefing. The 2014 edition of Austria's biggest film festival will feature a special tribute to actor Viggo Mortensen, a John Ford retrospective, a special program of movies on 16mm film, and like always countless documentary and feature films like Time Lapse (Picture: (c) Viennale).

The Viggo Mortens tribute will show many of his film works including his new movie JAUJA, a critically acclaimed drama directed by Lisandro Alonso. According to the Viennale "Mortens is one of the most unique and interesting actors of his generation", who has invented himself completely new with every role - from his collaborations with director David Cronenberg to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The list of this years' documentary films includes the Nick Cave portrait 20,000 DAYS ON EARTH directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard. The film shows fictitious 24 hours in the life of the iconic Australian musician and songwriter. The movie premiered at 2014 Sundance Film Festival where it won two awards.

The complete program with dates and venues will be published on 14 October. Tickets for the Viennale 2014 are available from 18 October, online and at the ticket offices.
